This Kheer house is the original in Karachi. The Pahalwan started on a cart "rehri" making the best Qulfi in town in the 50's. One winter it was too cold for Karachites to eat Qulfi. The Pahalwan served up the liquid on ice and called it Kheer. It needed less labor. and sold even faster. The Pahalwan no longer had ice-bitten right arm but made tons of money. This was an elite area in the 50's . The Pahalwan bought the store, in front of which he used to stand WITH HIS 'REHRI'. We used to live in that building. The Pahalwan learnt that my father had made a home in Society. He asked to buy our apartment, never asking the cost. He preferred a horse driven carriage with a Coach-man over an automobile. SC
